Wrapping Surfaces to Control Moment Arm Lengths during a Squat Task
نویسندگان
چکیده
Simulation of high flexion tasks such as squatting is hindered through invalid moment length estimation when using generic musculoskeletal (MSK) models. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of wrapping surface (WS) at the knee and hip joints on the muscle moment arms calculated using a MSK model during squatting tasks. A generic full body model was modified by (1) increasing knee and hip flexion range of motion (ROM), (2) adjusting translation and size parameters of two WS, and (3) implementing three additional WS. Muscle moment-arm lengths were calculated in OpenSim using motion capture data. The WS prevent muscles to cross into the bones, and the moment arm length of several hip extensors reach a plateau after 85o of hip flexion. The use of the modified MSK that includes additional WS is suited for the analysis of high flexion tasks.

Neck muscle paths and moment arms are significantly affected by wrapping surface parameters.
In this paper, we studied the effects of wrapping surfaces on muscle paths and moment arms of the neck muscle, semispinalis capitis. Sensitivities to wrapping surface size and the kinematic linkage to vertebral segments were evaluated. Kinematic linkage, but not radius, significantly affected the accuracy of model muscle paths compared to centroid paths from images. Both radius and linkage affe...

OBJECTIVE Biomechanical models that compute the lengths and moment arms of soft tissues are broadly applicable to the treatment of movement abnormalities and the planning of orthopaedic surgical procedures. The goals of this study were to: (i) develop methods to construct subject-specific biomechanical models from magnetic resonance (MR) images, (ii) create models of three lower-extremity cadav...
متن کاملChanges of the Patellar Tendon Moment arm Length in Different Knee Angles: A Biomechanical in Vivo Study
Patellar tendon moment arm length (PTma) changes at different knee flexion angles have not been determined in invivo studies. We aimed to determine PTma in four different knee angles using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) topredict in vivo changes in the moment arm length from different knee angles during running.PTma was measured as the perpendicular distance from muscle–tend...
